Fabra Elementary Junior Master
Gardeners Garden Project |
|
Fabra Elementary School
in Boerne is the site of the first Hill Country Master Gardeners
project in Kendall County. Second grade teacher, Tana Kehoe,
attended a Junior Master Gardeners workshop in Bexar County, and
she was hooked! Kehoe contacted Kendall County Extension Agent
Stephen Zoeller who relayed the information to Hill Country
Master Gardeners President Chris Seifert. This is where Boerne
resident and newly certified Hill Country Master Gardener, class
of 2010, Carrie Musetti, came into play. One of Carrie's goals
is to expand the Hill Country Master Gardener program in Kendall
County, and this school garden project created a great
opportunity for her and other Hill Country Master Gardeners of
Kendall County to contribute their talents and energy to a
project closer to home. |

Four raised beds were created with donations from
city vendors and help from parents, and in February 2011
the very excited children, teachers, parents, and Carrie
began their early spring plantings.
Bexar County Master Gardeners who are residents of Boerne are
enthusiastic about the new Junior Master Gardener project
as well, and they provided several vegetable plants from
their nursery. Bexar County Master Gardener, Shanna Ciano,
will work with HCMG's on this project. There are many
Bexar County MGs living in Kendall County, and this
project creates an opportunity for a great collaboration
of talent between the two organizations. |

A salsa
garden was planted in the spring, and a chip and dip salsa
party was held at the end of the school year. |
